This policy explains what data Plated collects, why, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it.

Who we are

Plated ("we", "us") operates plated.report. For data-protection queries, contact privacy@plated.report.

What we collect

Account data

When you register we store your email address, a securely hashed password, the plates you track, and your alert preferences. This is personal data and is handled under UK GDPR.

Public post data

We retrieve publicly available post text and metadata (author handle, platform, timestamp, link) that mentions a number plate. We store the text copy and a link back to the original — we do not store images. A vehicle number plate, in isolation, is not personal data under UK GDPR.

Usage & cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and to run the site. With your consent, we and our advertising partners may set ad-tracking cookies. You can choose "Essential only" in the cookie banner, and change your choice at any time by clearing cookies.

Why we use it & our lawful basis

• To provide the service (search, tracking, alerts) — performance of a contract.
• To send alert emails you have asked for — consent, withdrawable at any time.
• To fund the service through advertising — consent (ad cookies) and legitimate interests (contextual ads).

How long we keep it

Account data is kept while your account is active and deleted within 30 days of account closure. Cached post text is retained only as long as permitted by the source platform's terms and is refreshed or removed on a rolling basis.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your personal data, and to withdraw consent. Email privacy@plated.report and we will respond within one month. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Removing a post

If you believe a post we link to is inaccurate or defamatory, use our report mechanism. We also honour removals at source — if the original post is deleted, it drops out of Plated on the next refresh.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with processors who help us run the service (e.g. email delivery, hosting) under appropriate agreements, and with advertising partners only via consented cookies.
